The problem with Civ 5 is that it's rubbish. What's the verdict? Is the Mac version too glitchy to play, or have updates fixed it up?
Looks like it's ~$15 for regular, or $25 for the GOTY with all the expansions.
#Civ 5 for steam for mac download#
I'm thinking Civ 5 looks kinda similar, like a bit of fun, and is available via download on the mac. So my girlfriend loves Civilization Revolution on the xbox 360. It is hard to recommend the OSX version I favour rebooting into Win7. BUt it also looks like you are playing the game in a muddy field. If you turn down (or off) most of the graphic effects and keep map sizes below large or extra large, it runs great. At $15 or $25, I'd say it's definitely worth taking a gamble on.Īs for performance, the game runs much slower under OSX than it does under WinXP or Win7. Whether or not Civ5 is ultimately too involved for her tastes is too hard to predict until she's actually given it a shot. They can therefore spend their time learning the little nuances that makes the game interesting. It makes any beginner instantly competent. The "turn" button literally walks you through every step of each turn, and guides you to the things you've forgotten or overlooked. The user interface is, for the most part, fairly brilliant at guiding the player and makes the game easy to learn. The core mechanics are fundamentally the same.
If your lady friend had little difficulty learning Civ Rev, she'll have no problem picking up Civ5. Civ5 was my first experience with that series, though I have always been a big turn-based strategy fan.
